The Grist Collection made its debut at the Millrace Gallery on October 10 and 11. The work hangs in an old barn alongside pottery by Julie Clark, Rita Riley and Dione Mayhew as well as jewelry design by Terri Logan.

Grist is my body of work. The word means raw material fed into a process: what goes in as one thing comes out as another. Every piece is built up, worn down and built back up, on three different substrates: canvas, boxes and wood. Each one carries my style in its own direction.

I started making art before I could explain why...
Stacks of drawings on the back of order pads my Dad brought home from work. A stint at Pittsburgh Art Institute. A pen and ink studio while working through school. A full-time illustrator position at Gooseberry Patch. A degree in Art and Architectural History from Miami University. Then life: a yoga studio, a deli, a national retail rollout across Saks Fifth Avenue, a global design consultancy, 250+ websites built for other people’s ideas.
The art never stopped. It just went underground.
None of it was wasted. Every one of those years went in as raw material, and now, at 54, it’s back at the front. It looks like the life that fed it: layered, scraped, a little worn around the edges. Grounded. Built from what’s available. Real.
CJ Jasenski Studio is where Grist lives, alongside an illustration practice 30+ years in the making.
Based in Greenville, Ohio. Available for abstract commissions, gallery exhibition, private collection, and illustration work.
