The Millrace Gallery Fall Open House - Mixed Media Sculpture "Boundary" by CJ Jasenski

The Show: A few weeks ago, the Grist Collection came out of the studio and into a barn. Millrace Gallery hosted my first show on October 10 and 11, and the response was better than I hoped. Here's how it went.

The space: For those of you that have never visited the Millrace Gallery, it's located on the first floor of an old barn. Owner Julie Clark and her husband Terry live on the second floor of this amazing building and have turned it into the Architectural Digest-esque space it is today. I'll write more about the space in the future...it deserves it's own post for sure.

The Crew: The Potters that established the Millrace Gallery -Julie Clark, Rita Wiley and Dione Mayhew + Jewelry Designer Terri Logan (Terri Logan Studios) and Tessa Clark owner of Idlewild in Cincinnati. All super talented and creative + great conversationalists full of creative insights and great energy.

The Results: I hung 19 pieces for this show...all mixed in with the amazing work of Julie, Rita, Dione and Terri. I was honored to be among this group and they did everything they could to pull me into the mix and they even fed me an amazing lunch! At the end of the weekened I sold 8 of the 19 pieces including the 3 largest Mixed Media Box sculptures (a last minute addition I'm glad I included).

The Takeaway: Not only was it a good show for sales, but more importantly is was a great boost to my confidence. Walking into the show I felt pretty good about my work, but hearing the reactions of visitors and most importantly the Crew has provided a new level of energy that I didn't realize I was missing.

The Next Step: Well...it's a mix. I'm producing more work (focusing on the large box sculptures) + reaching out to some hot leads that I met at the show (individuals and galleries) + restocking my inventory at the Millrace Gallery - to be honest I thought that this would be a short-lived time at the Millrace, but after the show Julie invited me to continue bringing new work out and I'm more than happy to take her up on her offer.

The Final Thoughts: This was a great show...a great opportunity to bring my Grist Collection to the forefront and a great group of fellow artisits to collaborate with. As mentioned, my work still hangs in the Millrace Gallery and I'm adding new pieces as I can so please visit and let me know what you think.
